4th block will begin working on their monochromatic self portraits today. They will first draw out their contour sketch onto a 8x12 paper, enlarging it from a 4x6 photograph. They will then pick out a color to work with and practice making it both lighter and darker to add values to the image with oil pastel.
1st period VA Comp will begin working on a scratchboard portrait today. They will first draw out their image onto 5x7 newsprint. Then they will transfer the image to the scratchboard. Finally, they will scratch out the light areas to reveal the portrait.
4th block students that have earned back their art supplies will begin working on their sculpture assignment. They will focus on removing the negative space from a styrofoam cup to reveal a portrait.
Students that complete the portrait may use three cups to create an abstracted form. Play with the positive and negative space, Be sure it looks interesting from all sides. Secure two pieces of foam with tabs or interlocking pieces and a few drops of glue. Check out these examples below:
