The file above contains the sketchbook assignments for the semester. You will be expected to keep a sketchbook throughout the semester for both daily classroom assignments and Wednesday assignments. You should spend at least an hour on your sketchbook assignments. Be sure to upload a photo of the completed assignment AND of you holding the assignment so I can check for authenticity. (see below)

Visual Journals: ( Due feb. 7)
Create a visual jounal with mixed media. See http://www.journalfodderjunkies.com for visual journal examples. Click on either «Dave» or «Eric» and then click on «journal pages» to see examples.
Steampunk: (Due Feb. 14)
Steampunk is a retrofuturistic subgenre of science fiction or science fantasy that incorporates technology and aesthetic designs inspired by 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery.
Eye AND Superhero Drawing: (feb. 28)
1. Make a detailed drawing of your eye and the area around it. Include everything you see when observing closely in clear, even lighting.

Choice 2: Stacked BUrger drawing (Due apr 17)
Draw a stacked burger/ sandwich with unusual toppings (fill the sketchbook page)
Choice #1 Multiples views: (due apr 24)
Fill the page with many varied views of a chosen subject matter. Include SHADING.
Choice #2: Other planetary city (Due apr 24)
Design a city on another planet. Fill the page/ add color.
Choice 1: Fantasy Art (Due may 1)
Draw anything that is under the "fantasy" category. This could me myths, fables, fairy tales, invented creatures, even sci-fi. The more imaginative you are the better. (A good way to start is to create a fantasy character and then design a complete drawing around that character.
OR Choice 2: Anime samples: (due may 1)
Anime or Manga: Look up images in this style and create your own character in the Anime or Manga style.

Bonus sketchbook: Choice Due (may 17)
OPtion #1:
Pandemic Self Portrait: Take a photo of you wearing a mask. Use photo editing software to edit/change the photo by 75%. (change the color, add filters, draw on top of the image, etc. ). Post the original photo AND the edited photo when complete
Option #2
You can create a 2- page visual journal spread like the one we created in class earlier this year. Do a second one and fill it up with at least 4-5 layers to create a page with an interesting composition and focal point (For samples, please look at the visual journals above or check out this link:

Hollie Chastain is an artist living and working in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Following studies in both fine art and business she spent several years in marketing and design before taking the leap in 2009 to launch a career as an artist and illustrator. Hollie works mainly with paper, mixing vintage and found images with modern colors and compositions to create work full of originality and narrative.
For Option #3, you will take your photograph(s), and print out in black and white. Then, add collage, drawing, or even sewing to create simple compositions inspired by Hollie Chastain. You can see below, she often uses old, discarded library books, or pages as her substrate and sometimes even weaves her photos/collages together.

YAM Flag Design!! (Due NOv. 15th)
Students will create a flag design for Youth Art Month for the state of Georgia. This year's theme is "Dream in Art." Below are examples from previous years so you get an idea. This may be done on separate paper so that the best ones can be submitted to Georgia Art Education Association easier for judging. These need to be in color!!

Attention, artists! Explore new directions in your artistic skills and enter our annual art contest.
If you or someone you know is a high school student with an artistic side, we have an art contest you might be interested in. The contest is open to any high school student (grades 9 - 12) in Georgia.
We're looking for artwork that best represents modern agriculture found in the student's home county, or Georgia's agriculture industry as a whole.
From all entries received, ten finalists will be named (one from each of Georgia Farm Bureau's ten districts). One of those will be named the overall state winner, and two others will be named state runners up. Cash prizes will be awarded to all ten finalists, and additional prizes for the state winner and runners up.

Challenge Choice (due May 7):
Choose one of the following 2 challenges to complete at home. Photograph it and upload it to the sketchbook page of your blog.
CHOICE #2: Be a part of #Bookface. Bookface involves strategically lining up your face or another body part alongside a book cover that features a matching body part so that there appears a melding of life and art.
Don't have a book that works, no problem, use a video game cover or an Ereader.

STATE FISH ART CONTEST (DUE FEB. 14TH)
This is a great opportunity to show of your artistic talents! Create a drawing or painting of an official state fish for this contest. See sample previous winners below.
Pick a fish from the official fish list and then use the computer to research reference images. You can choose 1-3 images and place them on a word document to print out. Then use these images to draw out your fish design. Add color using paint or drawing media.
