VA Comp will begin working on their monochromatic self portraits today. They will first take an expressive selfie and alter it using pixlr.com .They will then draw out their contour sketch onto a 8x12 paper, enlarging it from a 4x6 photograph. Next, they will pick out a color to work with and practice making it both lighter and darker to add values to the image with oil pastel.
Below is the recording from the live class session:
For this project, students will get to choose if they want to create a still life using marshmallows, or crumpled paper. Students will use a series of at least three (paper) or 5 (marshmallows) of these objects to set up in a simple still life. They need to photograph the still life in case it moves during the course of the project, but most of the time we will be drawing from life. We will use a view finder to help crop in and create an interesting composition. Using a view finder to help with the composition:Make sure you pick the BEST composition for your still life. The items should be LARGE and fill up the space in the picture plane. Using the view finder can help you find the best composition. Which composition is better? Next, you will practice drawing out your compositions in your sketchbook. Do this small, these are called Thumbnail sketches. Once you have practice your thumbnails in your sketchbook, begin drawing the contours (outlines) of your still life on your 8x9 paper. (Draw lightly in case you need to erase mistakes.) Continue to use the view finder and continue to look at your still life to get accurate proportions. Lightly draw out the contour lines on the 8x9 paper. Focus on good proportion and making your shapes as accurate as possible:
Students have begun creating their designs for the copper repousse project! When students begin, they need to first plan out the design they will do. Then they get the copper and transfer the design and create lots of relief with the copper tools.
Below is a quick video explaining the next steps to creating your Line Altered Book page. Don't forget to include the title: LINE and the definition somewhere within the page.
Scrap paper can be found in the scrap paper drawers near the front corner of the classroom. |
