The next assignment will be a choice. You will complete a portrait and you must use a collage background. However, the choice of the rest of the media is up to you. You can choose to create a portrait of one of the Unsung Heroes from the ArtEffect project, or you may complete an Intimate Portrait: a look at human behavior. Unsung Heroes:Objective: Students will create an artwork for the ArtEffect Competition https://www.lowellmilkencenter.org/competitions/arteffect-project Intimate Portrait: A look at Human behaviorObjective:
They say that humans spend 95% of their lives in uneventful moments, but we as humans usually document the only the most eventful moments such as, birthdays, graduations, births, and special occasions. As artist, we have the opportunity to make these ordinary moments extraordinary. Looking at human nature can be very interesting if you choose to look closely. You will create a figurative work based on a simplistic time in a friend or family member’s life. The overall goal is to connect the viewer with the person represented in the work.
Today, we will use actual textures added to our acrylic paint to text out possible texture additions for our abstract photo composition. We will be practicing in our visual journal for this!
Today we are going to take a look at one of my favorite Art 21 artists, Ellen Gallagher.
Ellen Gallagher s an American artist. Her work has been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions and is held in the permanent collections of many major museums. Her media include painting, works on paper, printmaking, film and video. Some of her pieces refer to issues of race, and may combine formality with racial stereotypes and depict "ordering principles" society imposes.
