Each of your Altered Book Assignments will need to include visual journaling techniques. This is a way to include mulitple LAYERS in every Altered Book artwork you create. Today, we will review how to use Visual Journaling/ Surface manipulation techniques in a fun, easy way.
To make your ALTERED BOOK successful, you will have to do the following:
Art Nouveau, ornamental style of art that flourished between about 1890 and 1910 throughout Europe and the United States. Art Nouveau is characterized by its use of a long, sinuous, organic line and was employed most often in architecture, interior design, jewelry and glass design, posters, and illustration. It was a deliberate attempt to create a new style, free of the imitative historicism that dominated much of 19th-century art and design. 1. Art Nouveau is well-known for using strong lines in its designs, everything from:
3. The third big style theme is the emphasis on the female form. When you see girls and women in Art Nouveau designs, you’ll generally see them depicted more traditionally with long, flowing locks, in what’s regarded as a pre-Raphaelite take on the female form and poses. 4. Rounding out the style traits are various design flourishes and ornamentation that you see in furnishings and interior décor, such as the incorporation of exotic wood materials, semi-precious stones, silver, iridescent glass, and marquetry Sample Art Nouveau artists and media:Art Nouveau designs:Live intro:rough draft:
For the Hot off the Press assignment, you need to include a MINIMUM of 3 layers of surface manipulation in the background. One of those layers should include newspaper.
In the video below, I go over several sample ways you can create surface manipulation on your background. Please be sure to review the supply list and syllabus and join Remind for updates. If you ever have any questions you can email me at [email protected] or send a note through Remind. You can also follow me and Kell High School Art on twitter @denison_julie . If you need more ideas for project options, check out the link to my Printography extensions page. You may use any of these 13 Printography Extension options to finish off the projects for the rest of the semester. Remember, you are working on one sketchbook assignment, and one Project option due Thursday each week. Please let me know if you need more help. http://kellhighschoolart.weebly.com/printography-extensions.html Option #12: Printing with MarkersOption #11: #toonmechallenge
This one is for those of you who want to challenge yourself with digital art. The idea is to take a photograph of yourself and then choose a part of that photograph to "cartoon yourself" using any type of digital app such as Photoshop, Pixlr, PicsArt, etc. You can use a phone, iPad, tablet or computer. I am not the best at this, but you can find a ton of online tutorials. I will link a couple below!! Check out all the samples!
Here is another link to a #toonmechallenge tutorial using Photoshop, but Pixlr would also work for this. https://youtu.be/2svf-8y0_pQ
