How to Edit a photo for your Watercolor Resist (on a computer)
- Go to Pixlr.com and click on "Advanced Pixlr E."
- Open your chosen image
- Click "apply"
- If it needs to be rotated, click "image" and then "rotate"
- Click the "crop button" on the left hand side.
- Click on "Ratio" and make the ratio 4 x 6. Then click "apply."
- Click on "Adjustment" click on "hue & saturation," then bring the saturation all the way down to b&w. Then click "apply"
- Optional: click "Adjustment" click on "brightness & contrast" and make the image a little brighter and bump up the contrast a little bit. Then click "apply."
- Click on "Adjustment" click on "Posterize". Scroll to #1. Make sure you have 2 layers showing: black & white. Then click "apply."
- Click "file." click "save". Be sure to save as a jpg. or png. file. (rewrite the name so that you have both the edited version and the original version.)
- Print this image. Be sure you are printing it as a 4x6 image. (it will NOT WORK unless this is printed as a 4x6!!!!)
How to edit using your phone/ tablet
- Use your browser on your phone to go to the website: Pixlr.com
- Click on "Mobile Pixlr M"
- Click "photo"
- Click on "file" to find your photo in your photo gallery. Choose your photo.
- Click "Adjust," then click "saturate." Slide the bar all the way to the left to make it completely black and white. Click the check.
- Click "Reform," then click "crop," then click "2:3" ratio button. Use your fingers to make the box crop in tight on the face of your portrait. Then click the check.
- Click "Filter," then scroll to the right and click on "posterize." Slide the bar to the right until the number says 1 at the top. (to have 2 layers: black & white) Then click the check.
- OPTIONAL!! you may want to adjust the brightness and contrast BEFORE you save the filter:
- Click "Adjust." Scroll to the right and click on "bright." Slide the bar to the right to make it slightly brighter. Then click the check.
- Click "Adjust." Scroll to the right and click on "contrast." Slide the bar to the right to make it slightly more contrasty. Then click the check.
- Click "Save." Rename the image as "edited name." Save as a jpg file. Click "download."
How to Grid your photo (using an app)
- Download the "Drawing Grid Maker" app.
- Open the app, then open up your image by clicking the icon on the top left.
- Find your edited image from your gallery or downloads and click to open.
- Click on the horizontal line icon (second from the right). Change the "number of rows" to 6.
- Click on the vertical line icon (top right). Change the "number of columns" to 4.
- Take a screen shot once your image has 4 x 6 squares.
- Then download the image to keep with the grid lines on there.
For iPhone:
1. Download Grid# app
2. Change the settings so there are 4 columns and 6 rows. (for Vertical)
3. (for Horizontal, change settings to 4 rows and 6 columns)
